Bee’s lesson

 

What did I learn?

 

Throughout this lesson I mainly learnt and understood what lateral thinking is and understanding that there are different ways in perceiving and approaching things in an unusual way. Secondly, we watched videos on the education system, and I learned mainly from that, that collaboration is good as we can drive forward each other’s ideas and make it better. For example collaborating to boring ideas' can make one great idea. However, I learnt that I may work slightly different to everyone else and will not understand the work and videos which was being shown straight away. So I will always look back over everything again bit by bit making sure I have the right understanding. Thirdly, I learned that different ways of learning and thinking is good and to open up more and will make me feel more confident. Lastly, I also learned how my brain works. For example, making mistakes is good, as I will be able to learn from what I done wrong first time and change it, so I don’t make that mistake again.

 

Personal Reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson as I got a lot done and was able to relate what I learnt with my work. Furthermore, I felt that I was very focused and engaged during the lesson as well. During this lesson, I was relived as I was happy to be getting back into doing work as I had a long summer. Last but not least, throughout this lesson I found the education system video confusing. This made me feel away as I was noticing a lot of people where understanding it.

 

 

What went wrong?

 

Firstly, I didn’t really understand the YouTube videos that much. This was because I felt that the video was giving to much information to fast, which made me very confused.  However I was too shy to say anything as I felt a bit uncomfortable with everyone at first because I did not know them as well, and didn’t want to cause any hassle. Secondly, I did not understand how to use a mac computer. This was for the reason that I have a dell and am used to using these type of software’s.

 

What actions did I take?

When I came home I watched the YouTube clips again about the education system so I had a better understanding of it, and also took more notes on it. Secondly, I spoke to bee, and she taught me the basics which I would need to know during my course. Furthermore, Bee said to me that the more I begin to use the mac, the easier I will find when going on it myself. So I have also tried to use the mac a bit more in my spare time so then I can gain more knowledge on how to use the computer and for where certain things are.

 

What’s my next plan?

 

Firstly, my next plan for next lesson is to make a story board on my 30 second narrative. Secondly, to come forward more if I do not understand anything. To also start sharing my ideas, as I do feel more confident with sharing my thoughts in lesson.

 

Gary’s Lesson

What did I learn?

 

I learnt about Todorova narrative theory, which basically states that most story’s or plot lines follows the same pattern or path. Furthermore, the Todorova theory suggests that all narratives follow a three part structure where they both begin with equilibrium where everything is balanced, and then disrupt that equilibrium, and finally reach a resolution Also learnt about different genres, such as western, comedy and action etc After we had learnt this, we then tried to create our own narrative in a genre that we have chosen. I chose crime and created a small narrative about a young girl named Rosa Clark who is 14 year of age and currently lives in Birmingham, Alabama. Rosa lives in a society that is highly segregated, due to the fact that she fears to go out freely. The segregation Rosa Clark is exposed to is the separatism through education and job opportunities. Rosa Clark has not been able to attend school due to being black. After we explain our short narratives we then shared our ideas about our narrative and then everyone in our class spoke about how it can improve and how it is similar to the Todorov theory

Personal reaction

 

I was not happy with what was being done. This was because I was not understanding what he was teaching and if I asked him a second time I still wouldn’t understand it so I gave up and wasn’t focusing as well as I should of. However, this was also because I found the lesson challenging. By this happening made me dislike the lesson. I also felt uncomfortable to cautiously asking him questions because I did not want my teacher to dislike me as I feel that it can affect our work relationship.

 

What went wrong?

 

Honestly I felt that I wasn’t paying attention as much as I could have. Secondly, I did not understand Todorovs narrative theory and did not understand how it relates to our as assignment. The reasons for this, was because Gary is a very forma person, which I do not get as he talks to quick and does not repeat himself.

 

 

What actions did I take?

 

The actions I am going to take will plug further gaps in my knowledge and will help to understand Gary’s tasks which he sets for us in the future. So having this type of mind set made me go over Todorova theory again at home, making sure I understood it and could write a story using that theory. I also took brief short notes of the theory in my sketch book, so I am able to go back and see the meanings if I forget in the future.

 

What’s my next plan?

 

To have a finale copy of the chosen genre and make sure that the creative story is completed to the best of my ability next lesson.

Nick’s Lesson

What did I learn?

 

Today I learnt numerous things about the audio that is being made in different movies. We learnt a technique called the ‘Foley Artistry’. It is a method of audio that is used for video games, movies etc. The main plan for these audios is to get the dialogue for all the types of films and video games and to create a landscape for the film. We also learnt that in movies, the music and all audio gets recreated rather than re-making the entire scene they recorded. We also learnt a statistic showing that up to 80-90% of audio scenes get recreated because of the first recording not being up to standard of what they want. Furthermore, I learnt that when you create the sound that has to be re-created, they are made by props (most used are vegetables). For example, when we hear cracking ribs, the sound is celery being broken. Another example is two coconuts being used to make a sound like a horse is running. These simple vegetables or props are used to re-create the sound of the actual audio that was meant to be in the film, however it didn’t make the correct sound as the director or editor would have wanted. To conclude this, I have learnt about Foley Artistry. I have learnt that there is much more than there is when it comes to audio and the way people replace the audio they do not like.

 

Personal reaction

 

I thought this lesson was very informative and found it interesting and enjoyable. Secondly, I did not have any issues during this lesson as I was focused and did not need to conversate with anyone because I was really interested during the lesson and did not find anything challenging.

 

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong during this lesson. I worked hard, and found the lesson very productive throughout.

 

What’s my next plan?

​

For next lesson, I will need to bring a hot water bottle in for the lesson. This is so I am able to create a screeching sound for mine and my group’s interpretation on a scene in Fast and furious.

Johns Lesson

What did I learn?

​

Today I began to create our Wix, Google, and YouTube accounts. We then had to go and create a new website to create a website where we would be able to put all our work and show what we can do in order to show our work in the highest standard. It also helps us to learn about the way people create websites for their businesses to advertise their film work.

 

Personal reaction?

Throughout this 3 hour lesson I thought it was annoying how we was only creating 3 account. By this being the task for the 3 hours I did not think that it was a productive lesson, as it was straight forward, and was not a tough lesson. I personally believe that this could have been homework base.

 

What went wrong?

 

The only thing I believe was a problem in the lesson is that it was the only thing we did in the lesson is creating accounts for three different sites even though a majority of us already have accounts for them and this took the whole lesson. Secondly, I did not understand how to use the wix website and felt that he did not explain it to my understanding.  To conclude this, I believe it wasn’t really a very helpful lesson to learn something new.

What actions did I take?

I Spoke to John and explained to him what I didn’t understand on the wix and told him I was not sure how to use it and he explained the work to me and broke it down for until I got it.

 

What’s my next plan?

 

Firstly, my next plan is to complete my Wix template and to then make sure I have completed task 1 on researching online and interactive mobile platforms for homework.

 

Sonia’s Lesson

What did I learn?

Today we discussed our ideas and everything that is to do with our 30-second narrative. Firstly, we looked at a mini-movie where the plot is actually the beginning. After watching this, we learnt that the plot could always be different to what you are thinking it would be. After this, we then discussed our ideas and thought how we could change the plot in order to make the 30-second narrative more exciting. Secondly, I Learned about the left and right side of my brain and what ones more academic and what ones more slow. Lastly, learned some new ideas for my 30 second narrative and how I can improve it.

Personal reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson and what we were learning. I thought the lesson was very informative and did increase my knowledge.  Secondly, I feel that this made me in a very positive mood as our teacher Sonia brings very good, funny vibes to the lesson. Furthermore, I did not find anything challenging during this lesson as It was just about listening and taking notes and making sure that you look back through your notes etc.

 

What went wrong?

Didn’t find anything wrong during this lesson, it flowed really well and really enjoyed it.

 

 

What actions did I take?

Only actions I took that lesson was just taking down everyone contributing on how I can make my 30 second narrative better.

 

What’s my next plan?

Firstly, before Tuesday, I need to make sure I have got my idea finalized for my 30 second narrative.

Bees lesson

What did I learn?

Firstly, we were given a Sony camera that was connected to a television. This was to help us learn about camera angles for our 30-second narrative and all our projects. We then were able to actually use the camera and do camera angles like full shot, long shot, close-up shot and many other ones. After doing this, we then went onto the computers and then looked for a movie to look for a variety of camera shots. I decided to choose the movie. I also learned about the different camera angles which was shown to me on a power point. We also practiced using the camera angles which made me more confident in using the camera in different angles. This also helps me because it gives me a variety of ways I can shoot my 30 second narrative. Furthermore, by doing this it can recreate a story without using dialogue.

Personal reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson as it was mainly practical base and did not find anything challenging during this lesson. I also felt very comfortable with everyone at this point and was not afraid to raise my hand if I had any issues with anything.

 

What went wrong?

Personally, I feel like we wasted a good bit of time in the lesson as the television was not cooperating with the camera which was getting annoying as we just wanted to start the lesson.

 

What actions did I take?

Luckily, Bee got another television. This was good so we did not have any more problems with the camera and television and could continue with our learning.

 

What's my next plan?

For next lesson, I'm going to finish printing my camera angles and making sure all the camera are glued into my sketch book.

 

GARYS LESSON

What did I learn?

We reflected on Todorov theory which helped me have a clearer understanding on the narrative theory. After this was done, we were just continuing with our story that has to be given in on the 3rd October. The big problem about this lesson is

Personal reaction

Found this lesson very boring and not useful. By this happening, I decided to use this 3 hours to complete my assignment for Gary. Furthermore, I did not find anything challenging as I already spoke to Gary and got him to break everything down bit by bit for me.

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong, I just don’t understand the way Gary teaches as he teaches very academic and I am more of a visual learning. Secondly, I feel that I haven’t really learnt anything in this lesson and all I did was continue what I did last week.

 

What actions did I take?

Firstly, I began to write my narrative story for Gary’s assignment. This was so I was able to complete my assignment early and get Gary to look through it and tell me what I can do to improve it.

 

What's my next plan?

Complete my narrative story for Gary. This is so he is able to look through it and tell me what I can do better to get a better grade if needed. Furthermore, by me doing this can show them how determined I am to get my distinction.

Nicks Lesson

What did I learn?

I learned about the reverberation and how it’s results to multiple reflections. Secondly, in Nick’s lesson, I learnt about acoustics and the different types of microphones. We also learnt about Reverberation and how it is a result of multiple reflections. We also learnt that it is best to use the audio from a microphone and not directly from the camera. We also learnt that there are mics called ‘shotgun mics and they are designed for quality sound, however they are not able to get rid of the reflected sound. Although, the audio technical mics were designed so you can’t hear the reflected sounds. We also spoke about the anechoic chamber, which is a room that allows you to hear no sound. This chamber is designed to not allow you to hear absolutely nothing and some say it could turn people insane.  Last but not least, learned about the factors, in recording different audio in different environments and how it affects sound, so indoor and outdoor and simulated Acoustics, Reflections, surfaces and sound sources.

Personal reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson and I believe I learnt as much as it really showed me more about the audio. Furthermore, I did find the lesson was getting slightly intense as we were learning a lot of stuff. This began to get my mind very confused and jumbled.

What went wrong?

I was late which made me miss the first part of the lesson as transport was really bad. This was also because my train had been delayed. Furthermore, I stayed behind at the end of the lesson and just got Nick to go through the bits which I did not see him explain.

 

What actions did I take?

I stayed behind and spoke with Nick, and took notes on what I missed out so I wasn't behind or confused when writing my assignment.

 

What's my next plan?

I need to write the report for my assignment on microphones. I also am going to try to complete my assignment a week before the deadline so Nick is able to read through my assignment and tell me what I can improve to get the best grade as possible.

Johns Lesson

What did I learn?

Firstly In John’s lesson, we worked on the website we started last week and we were trying to get it together to put all our work on. We were creating new tabs in it so we can make it more organized and ready for us to set up our work in each of them. Learnt how to navigate myself on the Wixs website. I also learnt, how to briefly create a logo in Photoshop.

 

What went wrong?

It was annoying that most people understood how to use the Wixs website, because I found it very confusing.

 

What actions did I take?

Asked John for help and to explain briefly what exactly he wants us to do and to show me as an example, so I won’t keep harassing him.

What’s my next plan?

To make sure my Wix website is completed and the tabs are put up. Secondly, to make sure I have a rough logo designed.

 

Sonia's Lesson

What did I learn?

Today, we were working on our proposals and our storyboards. In the proposal, we were talking about our idea, who is involved and the target audience of our 30-second narrative. We then did our storyboard where we showed which shots we were doing and then how we want the scene to be presented.  Last but not least, as most of us did not understand Gary’s task about codes and conventions, Sonia also briefly explained it. The codes and conventions summed up are mainly technical and symbolic. Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text, for example the camera work in a film

 

Personal Reaction

I thought this lesson wasn’t too bad as it was not hard, it was a very chilled and laid back lesson and felt like I was getting work done. Secondly, I felt really relived as the lesson was not based where we had to cautiously use our brains. The work was simple and straightforward.

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong, it was just a long day and I was exhausted. However, I also did not understand what a proposal was and how to lay it out.

 

What actions did I take?

I Spoke to Sonia and told her I did not understand what it was and how to lay it out and she showed me the template she put on line. So all I had to do was follow the template.

 

What's my next plan?

First thing I needed to Complete was my finale story board, with the camera angles included. Secondly, I need to send my proposal to Sonia and to make sure it’s completed correctly with grammar and punctuation done properly.

Bees Lesson

What did I learn?

I learned how to use final cut pro and how to set it up correctly. I also had help to understanding how to set it up by Bees YouTube channel. This helped me, as I was able to set up finale pro correctly. Second thing I learned how do is use Photoshop. I also learned how to use basic filters on Photoshop. Last but not least. We also started our animatic on final cut pro and gathered images that are similar to our storyboard that is from the Internet. I gathered eight different images, as they were very similar to my storyboard.

Personal reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson as I was learning a lot of things on the mac which was new for me. For example I did not know what animatic was and I did not know how to use finale cut pro. Furthermore, at first I did find it very confusing using finale cut pro. However, the more I used it the more I started to understand it.

 

What went wrong?

I did not know how to use final cut pro and Photoshop. By using these, it was also difficult, because I am new to using a mac. So it was a lot to get my head around.

 

 

 

What actions did I take?

Told bee and she showed me how to use Photoshop and finale cut pro and also helped me begin to set it up.

 

What's my next plan?

My next plan it to subscribe to bees YouTube channel and to do my visual research on my 30 second narrative.

 

Gary's Lesson

What did I learn?

The Totrdorv narrative theory but in more depth so I had a more clear understanding and was able to take use the theory in my work. Also learned in depth more about the codes and conventions. This was helpful as I was able to include it in my work.

 

What went wrong?

Honestly I find that grays lessons drag and I never engage in his lessons. This is because of what he teaches. I find it very formal. This was shown by him standing up and explaining the work rather than showing us examples etc. Furthermore, even if I question Gary and ask him for help its still confusing because of the type of vocabulary he uses.

 

What actions did I take?

Spoke with my tutor for her advice and she went through with me everything I did not have a clear understanding on. She also spoke to me and said that I should get Gary to explain it to me more in a way I understand.

 

What's my next plan?

Complete my genre assignment for the 10th and to make sure if I don’t understand anything in Gary's lesson always go back and talk to him and see if he can explain it better and give me examples.

Nicks Lesson

What did I learn?

In Nick’s lesson we learnt how to use a variety of different microphones that have professional use. We also learned how they are used, and how they are connected to the mixture, which is the monitor that controls the sound. However throughout the lesson I did not have the opportunity to test out all of the microphones and take notes on each of them. Because this happened, I took 5 minutes of my break and spoke to Nick and just took down a few notes on each of the microphones I done this so I have the knowledge of what microphones I think is best for me to use for my 30 second narrative etc.  Lastly, before next lesson I will have my completed assignment done. However, before the deadline I will show nick the assignment and will ask him what I have to improve on it to get the better grade. This is so I am able to get the best grade as possible.

John’s class

Today in John’s lesson we worked on our first task on our assignment, where we had to get various social Medias and see why they are popular in society today and to give basic reasons why we have chosen these social media and the problematic problems as well.  After we completed the first bit of task 1 we moved on to completing the last bit. This was finding 3 video sharing sites that our popular and the reasons why they were too big. So summing that up, we were looking for the problematic problems as well and how we could resolve this issue. The problems throughout this lesson are that I found myself much unfocused during some of it. This was because I was exhausted and should have got an earlier night. Secondly as it was just research it wasn’t really interesting me as much as the lessons do.  However, I do enjoy Nick’s lessons, and I understood the research I was getting and personally believe that it defiantly benefited me doing the research in terms of my 30 second narrative.

Sonia’s lesson

During my favorite teachers lesson Sonia, we basically done work that needs to be done before we start filming for my 30-second narrative. For example, we had to finish of our animatic and f our research we had to do in order to make sure that everything is ready for our narrative, and that everything is completed in order to begin filming.  However, throughout this time I feel that I did not do much that could benefit me. I just feel I never done anything really productive. I feel this was because it was Friday and I was started at 9 and finished and 5 and really just wanted to sleep.

Today in workshop we studied about safeguarding and discrimination in different aspects. For example people who are different compared to others. Personally, I believe I did not learn anything really new. This was because it was everything I knew that I had learned throughout my time in school however it was good and useful as it refreshed my mind about the different aspects and a how the options on society has changed.

Bee’s lesson

What I learned?

In Bees lesson today, we were being reviewed about our work that we have been doing both in class and at home. The review was based on helping us to improve our work that we have done already and to get feedback on it and she also showed me various things on the mac, to show me what could improve my animatic. Secondly, being reviewed really did benefit me to finish my work and to improve it as much as possible. It also helped me to know that I was on the right track with my work and that I’m working at a good steady paste. Throughout this lesson, I did not have any problems or issues as I was just being reviewed. However the mistakes I did make, I liked as Bee told me what I have to improve on. Lastly, for net lesson I will make sure that I have my destination for my 30-second narrative, my actors and equipment ready to start filming.

Gary’s lesson

What I learned?

Throughout Gary’s lesson today it was just finalizing our Genre analysis assignment. However, I finished mine a week ago. This was so Gary could read through it and tell me what I need to improve on.  This was so I am able to achieve the highest grade as possible and won’t be stressed out with work piling up.  However after he went through it and told me what I need to improve, I started to look through the bits he said was wrong and improved it and then the second half of the lesson I gave it back to him making sure that there was nothing else I needed to do.

Nicks Lesson

What did I learn?

Throughout this lesson I learnt quite a bit especially about studio roles. I learnt that in the studio, there are a variety of job roles that have importance. For example, there is the audio engineer. This person changes the audio style and is the catalyst of creating of the audio whether it is new or whether it is a re-creation of the one made in the film. I believe I learnt a lot and for the first time in a long time I had no problems in a lesson and

Personal reaction?

I really enjoyed learning about the different microphones etc and the different jobs roles. I thought it was very interesting as it is coming from someone personally who uses the equipment and studio often. As using microphones and the studio is new to me I found it even more interesting to listen to and I feel that I am working towards what I need to achieve.

What went wrong?

I honestly did not think anything went wrong. This was because it was just about listing and watching what Nick was saying and doing. Furthermore, Nick went through the equipment step by step and made group by group come up while he was watching, so he was very supportive and if he saw someone doing something wrong he would have said something. Furthermore, the only thing that i think could have improved was that I was not able to finish testing out one of the microphones. This was because I was sitting talking and did not realize the time. As this happened I stayed behind and Nick let me test it out before he left.

What's my next plan?

My next plan will to update the changes he said to be changed on my assignment and make sure that I have handed the assignment in before the deadline.

Johns Lesson  

What did I learn?

I did not really learn as much as I was just doing research for my Task 1 on my assignment brief, which would be effective online mobile platforms. Secondly, during this lesson we also where updating our websites, and where making sure that we began to add in are work on them.

Personal reaction?

Honestly, this lesson dragged as it was not really a lesson where we was learning anything. However, throughout the lesson I was not concentrating at all which resulted me to not completing my task one. By this happening was making me fall behind in lesson and was making my work pile up even more. Furthermore, this affected me emotionally slightly as I was trying to manage all this work that was being handed to me with deadlines and was trying to sort out a way in which I can submit it all in time. So it did make me very stressed at times. Last but not least, I did not find anything challenging as all the work was in front of me and was straight forward. It was just about me concentrating and completing the work.

 

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong during this lesson, I just should have concentrated more and spent more time on the work in lesson. His was because if I had got it done during John’s lesson I would have less work to do and worry about at home.

What action did I take?

Firstly, I will make sure that I research more online mobile platforms and lastly ill look up 3 problematic files.

What’s my next plan?

My next plan is to make sure I complete Task 1 and 2 before the next lesson. This is so I am able to upload it on my Wix website, by me doing this, will continue to make me be at the same paste as everyone else.

 

Sonia’s Lesson

What I learned?

In Sonia’s lesson today it was not really learning anything, it was mainly focused in catching up with all our other tasks that we've been doing. For example, I focused on Nick’s assignment and made sure that it was completely to the best of my ability and also updated my reflective journal. This was so I did not fall behind on my journals. Last but not least, I had Sonia to read through Nick’s assignment making sure that it was written perfectly and the punctuation was where it was meant to be.

What was my personal reaction?

I was really happy with what was being done. This was because I was getting all my work done from the previous classes and it made me stress less as I felt that everything was getting done in a short amount of time. I also enjoyed Sonia’s lesson as I feel that she is determined for us to do well, and is very easy to come to if you are stuck with some work etc.

 

What went wrong?

As I let Sonia read my reflective journal she said that I had to elaborate on what I was saying as I was not providing enough information and evidence. However, I looked on visual directions which helped me to elaborate on my reflective journals.

What actions did I take?

I done some more research on visual directions which helped me improve my reflective journal and helped to elaborate on what I said even more.

What's my next plan?

To show Nick my completed assignment and see if there was anything I needed to improve on. Secondly to show Sonia an update of my reflective journal and to see if she thinks I have elaborated it enough.

Bee’s lesson

What did I learn?

Today in Bees lesson it was mainly focusing on work to do with our 30 second narrative. This was based around our animatic and our pre-production folder. However, during the lesson I did learn oone thing, which is that filming will not commence unless if all production paperwork is not completed and is not ready for the time we start filming. Overall, I have found this lesson useful as it has given me an understanding at where I am in my work and what I need to do in order to be ready for the deadline.  

 

Personal reaction

Personally, I really liked what was being done, I thought it was very helpful and helped me ask Bee any type of questions if needed. Secondly, I did not find I was affect emotionally during this lesson. This is because I felt that I was on top of my work and felt that it was very useful having Bee to look over it and checking it etc. Last but not least, this lesson was not challenging as I had to just focus on my previous work and just touching up work that I did in the previous lessons.

What went wrong?

Personally I don’t think anything went wrong, it was not hard what I was doing it was just about catching up with work that we needed help with.

What actions am I going to take?

I'm going to make sure that I do more visual research for my sketch book and  will also make sure I take shots out of different barber shop movies This is so I am able to recreate them shots for my 30 second narrative that I am doing.

What's my next plan?

To make sure for next lesson my animatic is completed and also that I have started my production paper work.

 

Gary’s Lesson

What I learned

In Gary’s lesson, we did an exercise where we look at words that represent a specific topic. This helped me learn that within a film poster, there will be a lot of things to talk about and different ways to persuade the audience to come and watch the film that is being shown. I also learnt that these are all persuasive techniques that are used in order to make the audience really grasp what they should be watching.

 

 

Personal reaction?

I was quite annoyed to be honest. I felt like this as I do not understand what Gary asks us. This is because he explains it to me and still don’t understand it. However, I do always ask Sonia to explain but when I sit and think about it I have to keep asking Gary and maybe explain to him that I do not understand it can you break it down differently. I think by me doing this would be better, and would make more sense. I also think if I do this Gary may change the way he explains certain topics and may break it down in a different way.

 

What went wrong?

The one problem I had in this lesson is that I felt that the lesson went too slow and I didn’t really learn as much as I possibly could have. This was because I find that I talk a lot during his lessons as he explains the work and then makes us get on with it.  Thirdly I found Gary is very academic when explaining the work so I went to him and explained how I did not understand the question and he broke it down bit by bit to me so I had a better understanding.

What actions am I going to take?

Personally, I think I'm going to sit down with Gary before next lesson and just ask him to go through the questions and break them down more for me so there more clear. I also think I'm going to get Gary to also tell me everything I should include to get the highest grade as possible.

What's my next plan?

Have my assignment completed and ready for Gary to look through and to improve.

Nicks Lesson

What I learned?

In Nick’s lesson, we were introduced to copyright. Copyright is when someone uses an artist’s music or any other content that doesn’t belong to him or her. We had to research about MCS, which I learnt that it is a way of tracking that is using your material and whether it is false copyright or if the person has asked permission. MCS also allows you to get the money the person is getting using your content. This has taught me that although people falsely use other people’s content, it can be sold using these websites such as MCS. Secondly, I also learned about NLA, which is the newspaper licence's agency main service, which are to make copies, such as photocopying, faxing and scanning etc. The newspaper licenses agency also makes copies of newspaper contents. For example, articles relating permits etc. Last but not least, I learned about sync right. This is a music synchronization license. This is granted by the holder of the copyright of a particular composition.

Personal reaction

I really enjoyed this lesson, and feel like I learned a lot which helped me see copyright in a new light. Secondly, I did not think copyright was taken as seriously. However paying attention to this lesson and asking questions made me realize how important it really is.  Furthermore, I need to make sure that my work is done to the best of my ability and if I have copied a bit of written work from a specific website I need to make sure I reference it properly. Overall, I believe I have really started well for the copyright report and I hope that this knowledge will come to play with my 1000 word report that is approaching.

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong, this lesson. However, Nick told me I plagiarised my work by 34% however he said it was not bad however, I feel like I should have added more links on my work which would provide more evidence of where I got the rest of my information from.

 What actions am I going to take?

I'm just going to make sure when doing my assignments in the future to just make sure that they are linked properly, which won’t cause my work to be plagiarised in a way which is seen as cheating.

 

What's my next plan?

Just to look through my notes and make sure I understood the work clearly.

John’s Class

What did I learn?

Today in John’s lesson we were continuing with our website and developing our business cards. However during this lesson I learned how to create a business card. Furthermore, I feel that this lesson was based on completing work that was not completed for John and that it had to be up to date.

Personal Reaction?

I felt much laid back this lesson as John just left us to it. However because I felt laid back I was not focused enough throughout the lesson which did make me full behind as I did not complete my business card this lesson. Furthermore, John has a smell to him which really does disturb me during the lessons. Because of this I feel like I am not able to concentrate when he speaks to or is explaining something in particular to me.

 

 

What went wrong?

I did not understand how to make a business card. This was because I was not aware of the website. Because this happened I asked John to help me with it and asked him what website I go to create my business card. This is also so next lesson I would be able to order my business cards so then they are able to come in time.

What actions am I going to take?

To make sure I complete my business cards before next lesson. This Is so I am able to order them before the due date of the assignment.

 

Sonia’s Class

What did I learn?

In Sonia’s Lesson, we began working on After Effects. Today was the first day that we used this software and we had to learn how to use it by making objects move. After working on After Effects, I learnt how to use the software properly, by making a new composition using the right measurements. Using all the tips that Sonia gave us, I was able to make a man in space move around.

Personal reaction

Don't get me wrong I always find Sonia's lessons so funny and enjoyable. However this time I was exhausted. I honestly, couldn’t be bothered this lesson however, I did not want to be behind so I completed the task however not to the best of my ability but still made sure it was ok.

What went wrong?

I struggled using after affects as I did not understand where to find it etc and how to use it. I explained this to Sonia and told her I don’t understand how to use these different software's on the Mac and she went through after effects with me and showed me how to use it.

What actions did I take?

Personally, I don’t think I’ll take any actions after I completed this lesson. This lesson I felt really exhausted however, I will defiantly look through my notes and will go on after affects and will explain it to my friend what I learned. By me explaining it will also help me to remember what I learned and will show me that I did learn from that lesson.

What's my next plan?

To complete my after affect task. As I did not finish it as I need to complete the move of the moon.

Personal reaction

Honestly, by me not keeping up to date with my reflective journal has made me become very stressed. This is because I know reflective journals are a big part of my grade.

Half Term

What did I learn?

Filming my 30 second narrative

Throughout half term, I had practice using the camera with the tripod. This was new to me as I have never used a camera before for professional use, where I would be graded on. However, by me practicing with the camera made me more aware of what angles where easier and harder to do. It also made me see how important light is. This important as if the lighting was bad, it could affect my 30 second narrative and could cause complications when editing. Furthermore, by filming without a teacher was hard for me, however it was better that way as it gave me more independence, which was good for me as throughout my the two years of college I would need to make sure I understand filming and recording etc.

Personal Reaction

Before I began to film, I was very nervous and had no confidence what so ever. However, throughout filming I noticed that it wasn't that hard and the tripod helped was useful as well throughout. Secondly, before I started film I did feel a lot of nerves as filming is new to me and because this filming is included in my grade I had a lot of pressure. Thirdly, once I started filming, I really enjoyed it. This was because everything was going to plan and was straight forward in my opinion once I got into it.

What went wrong?

First of all, one of my actors did not show up, which was a big downfall. This was not good as I had to get one of my friends in my class to do it, which in my opinion did not look professional as my teacher new her. Secondly, the shop owner that owned the hair dressers was very speedy with us filming. This was annoying as she continuously was standing over me every minute watching and timing saying she has places to be, which I found was annoying.

What actions to be taken place?

The first action, I took was replacing the actor that didn’t show up, with one of the girls in my class. Secondly, I have to go through my scenes when editing, and make sure that I have known scenes which I have to film again.

What's my next plan?

I have to complete my last scene and start to edit my production. Last but not least, I have to complete my production paper work as well and make sure there aren't know scene which I have to re edit.

Nicks Lesson

What did I learn?

Firstly, during this lesson we were going through the two assignment which are both due on the 14. Secondly, I learned about audio mixing in final cut. The two important words I learned was Distortion, which is when the sound exceeds to 0db which is what I need to avoid and secondly, Decibel which is how you measure the loudness of sound etc. I also learned pasting attributes. Learning this, was very useful for when I begin to add sound to my 30 second narrative. This is because Nick went through the basics which were mainly to open the inspector tab which allows me to see how loud the video is and it also lets me see all the properties etc. However, learning this was very useful, as I did not understand how to add sound to my 30 second narrative which would be allowed. Furthermore, I defiantly think this would be useful learning this. It can help me with future assignment for example my final major project.

Personal reaction?

 Personally at first, I was tired and was not focused as much as I should have been. I also did find the video very boring but still took down the notes so then I understood what the video was about and could use it to help with my work in the future.  I enjoy Nick’s lessons as I always learn a lot of stuff I did not know which really benefits me during the course and with my assignments. [Personally, I do find of nicks work challenging when learning about it but I always go home and go through what he teaches me so then I am able to have a better understanding etc.

 

What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong during the lesson. Was a bit annoyed because I got my first yellow card. This was because I was 12mins late. But I personally think that was it. Everything else was fine.

 

What actions to be taken?

I will always make sure I'm on time to his lessons, and will make sure I let him know I'm going toilet before. Furthermore, I will go through the YouTube video when I get home and take any more notes if needed. This is so I have a better understanding of what he taught this lesson, which I personally think can help me during my other lessons and with my practical work etc.

 

What's my next plan?

 

My next plan is to start to complete the two assignments which I have due for next week’s Thursdays lesson. This is so Nick is able to read through them and tell me what to include or what to do better. Secondly go through this lesson at home, making sure I have a better understanding as I feel like it was a lot to take in. This is why I always go through it once I get home because I feel like i zone out and am very slow at times.
