Bees Lesson

Today in lesson we had an  introduction to Photoshop talking about pixels, bit depth and the different types of file formatting and why it will help us for our work throughout the year and how we can use the information today to get a more substantial grade.

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction

In Bee’s lesson we learned about firstly Bit depth.  This is none as a colour depth. This identifies the number of bits used in indicating the colour of a single pixel in an image.

Secondly, we learned about TIF. This is short for Tagged Image File Format, which is where images can be stored. It’s commonly used in print and graphic art. However it’s a format, which is more used for high colour depth images, along with JPEG and PNG.

Thirdly, we learned about PNG. This is short for Portable Network graphics, which replaced GIF.  Moreover, PNG is supported on most versions of Microsoft Internet Explore. For example with a PNG you're able to compress it

However, I found this lesson was very helpful as it taught me different ways I can use photoshop the proper way rather than using in an improper way. I enjoyed it at first as I found I was learning a lot of new topics within photoshop which however I never new how to use.

I also learned how to convert Rasta files. This is so they can be used in Vector programs like illustrator.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

Firstly when doing this lesson, I felt that I never understood anything Bee was talking about. I found the whole lesson confusing and told Bee this. However, Bee told us to right up definitions ourselves in way we would understand it, which I thought may help.

What action did I take?

I firstly looked up the different topics we were speaking about and got a range of answers and put them together in a way I would understand. Furthermore, at the end of completing this, I had Bee to read through it making sure that the terms I used were correct and the photos were correct to the reading.

What is my next plan?

  • Use what I have learned and experiment with it on photoshop.

Below shows a range of Bee’s slides showing each slide informing me about photoshop.

Shellys Lesson

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction

This was our first lesson with Shelly and it was overall a good lesson. The lesson was interactive lesson, where we were discussing various topics. However, we started of by speaking roughly about different topics that can inspire film and tv shows. This was good as it got me thinking about what can help to inspire my FMP. Secondly, we watch a short film, which shelly says she likes to do depending on how the lesson is going which I thought was good as we were still learning different things that can help us with our Fmp just from watching the short video. For example creating a montage. This was because the short movie was good and told us everything we need to know but just in a smaller depth. When completing this, we received a random newspaper clipping and had to create a plot using one of the articles and then share it with the class. My article was based on a young boy at the age of 17 who had been stabbed 15 times by a group of gang member and was left to die outside  his house. This really made me think about my FMP and how I can portray different topics in society going on today and from the mum prospective for my FMP.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

During this lesson I found that it was straightforward and did not come across any critical incidents.

What is my next plan?

  • Go back through what I’ve learned in this lesson and start to put different types of research in my FMP folder identifying some of my research.

Nick’s Lesson

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction

Today in Nick’s lesson we were put into groups to create a title sequence. I was in a group with Richmond and Abbey. We had to produced a title sequence which included different 3 types of sound. For example we used music, Atmospherics and The concept and aim of our project was to create a title sequence of our choice. We’ve tried to create a weird obscure tripping edit that is made to excite the viewers and to cause a psychological feel. Elaborating on this, when producing this title sequence Richmond had been inspired by a song called ‘ Love scars’ which helped him created this psychological mind blowing edit; Which gets the audience more engaged as it's so mind blowing. We created a sequence using a collaboration of different clips from YouTube that we edited on final cut.

Richmond the editor gave us the idea for the whole concept of our title sequence.  He put together a bunch of clips he has previously edited and colour corrected throughout. This was good as it left us with less work to do. However we still decided to change it up a tad and add more of a unique twist showing each of our work in one.

I really did enjoy this lesson as I was able to learn how Richmond is able to make these kinds of videos. He had taught me step by step and told me to make sure I went on to this website http://convert2mp3.net/en/ and converted my video to a MP4. I enjoyed working in this team as we me and abbe were able to play a massive part in the sequence. This was good as Richmond also asked our opinions and kept us involved which is what we were doing with him when it came down to the written work.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

During this lesson I found that it was straightforward and did not come across any critical incidents.

What is my next plan?

  • Focus on completing the title sequence before next lesson. This is so we only have the short summary to complete in the next lesson.

  • Monday 18th September:

Bee’s Lesson

What I have learnt/ What happened

This lesson was a practical workshop which involved us going out and filming all the different shots that Bee had taught us, which is show above.

We got a brief overview of the shots we would need to take and how to achieve manual focus. My group and I really wanted to get shots that were different from to the rest of the groups so Abdul took us to the Jaguar show room by the college and asked for permission to film the cars.  Before this I learned about a wider range of camera angles, some that honestly I didn't know existed. For example POV.

Personal Reaction

I was very enthusiastic about our shots as I was sure ours would be the most different types of shots. The rest of my group was also excited to show our shots and because of this, we all worked really well as a group. Abdul did most of the filming due to the fact that he seemed to have ideas for each of the shots, however I occasionally did some filming too. Even know I did not fully film anything and was more directing Abdul whereabouts to go, I still was learning about the different shots and could see from another person's perspective of how they would film it.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

I was slightly disappointed that me and my team really tried to do a wide range of perfect shots. Upsettingly, Bee really went in heavy with the criticisms which made us all feel really bad because she complained about how we strained away from the task. Despite us being annoyed with the criticisms, we weren’t fazed as we knew that regardless of whether the shots we got were the ones that were asked for, they were still very good, visually pleasing and effective. Furthermore, by receiving this amount of criticism when we thought we done well did make us ANNOYED as we were really looking forward to showing it.

What action did I take

Speaking to Bee and asking about the way we filmed and what she would advise us to do. This was just so we do it correctly and are able to film these camera angles correctly when it comes to our FMP.

What is my next plan?

  • Going back to the Jaguar cars and re filming just so we get the shots done correctly  and also,  know that we can confidently shoot each camera angle confidently.

Bees Lesson

Today in Bee’s lesson, I learned about different types of lighting. This happened when I was taken into a green screen room with 4 others and was showed the different types of light that are used in films and how we can portray  these lights to get across to the audience the types of movies it will be and the type of scene we are trying to get across.  After finishing filming the different types of lights that we can use, we made it into a short clip with headings. This was good as it can help me for future reference if I ever hads to use this for my FMP. This was a really enjoyable lesson as I did not know how to use these types of light in that way.

                                                          Kinds Of Light:

We also learnt about the different points of lights:

The key light is the main source of light in photography or film.

This is the secondary light, which is placed on the opposite side of the key light.

The backlight is placed behind the subject and lights from the rear.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

During the lesson I found that I didn't come across any weaknesses. Personally I think the only weakness I came across was forgetting how to set up final cut.

What action did I take

I went onto this link on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7-zZkHJHas

which guided me on how to set up my Final cut pro. This was good as instead of me asking someone I was more independent and done it myself.

What is my next plan?

  • To make sure I revise over what I’ve learned today just for future reference.

Sonia’s Presentation Lesson

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction?

Today In Sonia’s lesson it was the day of presenting our presentation on the editor of our choice. The editor which me and my team presented was Peter E. Berger. Peter Edward Berger was an American film editor with about fifty feature and television film credits. His film editing credits include: Mommie Dearest, four films in the Star Trek series, Fatal Attraction, and Coach Carter. When presenting this famous editor, we gave an informative presentation explaining to the class roughly about him and some films and television programs he’s edited.  The reason we chose this editor was because he edited me and Abbey’s favorite movie Coach Carter. After giving the informative speech we showed a few clips which showed the use of a few camera techniques.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J97F53CAA1I&feature=youtu.be

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnH1ZtugoqU&feature=youtu.be

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1wAemvxNaM

The quick, sharp, straight cuts used in this scene are to symbolise the intensity of what's going on in this scene and it does it very well to keep the audience engaged. This was a very good lesson as we were learning about the different types of editors that are and were present, which was good as it was fun but at the same time, was informative and engaging.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

Nothing went wrong during this lesson. Only thing that was negative was that we did not complete our powerpoint as we did not focus on it as much as she should. This is because me and my group were focusing on Unit 12.

What action did I take

I completed the presentation on my break showing Sonia it and making sure that it was more informative and that she found out more about it Peter E. Berger.

What is my next plan?

Next plan is to finish completing Unit 12, which is due next thursday.

Bees Lesson

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction?

Today we mainly focused on updating our wixs pages and making sure they had a more professional look. I really enjoyed this lesson as I was able to focus on creating a much better portfolio, which I will be comfortable showing at an interview in university.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

During this lesson I did not have any weakness as it was work I learned last year with John. However, I was going to use my old wixs page and was told that I would have to do a lot of changes as it was not professional.

What actions did I take?

I decided just to create a new wix page making sure that I looked at examples and related it to mine. When completing this website I made sure I showed Sonia some of it to just check the professionalism.

What's my next plan?

  • To complete my wix page for Thursday

Sonias Lesson  5/10/17

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction?

Today in Sonia’s lesson we were making new logos. However, as the class was not confident with photoshop, so Sonia went through it showing us the basics on how to to use it. I found this lesson so confusing. Photoshop I just feel is something I will never get it even if I focus 100%. Apart from that I did enjoy it in the end as I came up with a new logo and learnt a few things on photoshop from getting help.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

During this lesson as I did not understand how to use photoshop. I was helped by Richmond, who had the understanding of what we had to do and how to do it. Getting assistance from him really helped as he was showing me to do everything and in the end I came up with a small professional Logo.

What actions did I take?

Getting Bee to assist me and Richmond as we had a slight bit of trouble trying to get the circles symmetrical.

What's my next plan?

  • Complete my logo

Bee’s Lesson

6/10/17

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction?

During Bees lesson, I learned how to do a stitch/ clone. This was an amazing skill for me to have as I didn't think it was ever possible that I could do something like this. In order for me to do create this clip, I filmed the same individual from 2 different angles when filming. Moreover, I left the camera stationery but moved the subject in the opposite direction to make it look like a clone.  Once completing these shots, I spent an hour editing it, which was straightforward as Bee showed us how to do it. I put the clips on top of each other and cut out the space to make them looked like another version of them.

What went wrong/Weaknesses

When completing this task, I noticed that my video was very jumpy. This happened as I don't think I lined the centre out properly.

What actions did I take?

Furthermore I think that I should have took more of a range of shots just so when filming I had a number of shots to choose from. Secondly, I showed Bee my video and she said that I should just render the video and just speak about my weaknesses in the video.

What's my next plan?

To complete and evaluation on all the workshops that I've done identifying my strengths and weakness.

Evaluation Of workshops

What I have learnt/ What happened/Personal Reaction?

I find that these workshops have been really useful and engaging. I’ve learnt and refreshed my mind with so much. I learnt a lot about photoshop, which is something have to contiously practise as it's a lot to get my head around. Secondly, refreshed my mind with the range of different camera angles and have also learnt a few more that I didn't understand. Thirdly, I learned how to duplicate an individual and to percieve to the audience that it's a clone of themselves. Which I think is an amazing skill. I enjoyed this lessons to some extent as I thought it was very complex for me. however, it was just a lot for my head to get around.

Strengths

Throughout these workshops I feel that my camera angles and and editing skills have improved more by doing these workshops. I feel that I’m ready to begin my FMP with all this knowledge as I know for a fact a lot of these skills will be used.

Weakness

I felt that I was very week when it came to the first workshop, photoshop. This really confused me and I know for a fact that it's something that I have to practise a number of times to get my head around and to have more of an understanding.
